This film’s title is THE OX. It is a beautiful portrait of Eric Hollenbeck from Eureka. He lives as a wood processor and carpenter and has a wonderful wisdom. He helps young people with their self confidence and works with techniques that only a few still control. But he’s also Vietnam veteran and talks about the tension in his life with beautiful metaphors. The music in this film has that typical American sound – with swollen Horn music and many violins – but let’s forgive the 23 year old maker Ben Proudfoot (Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts) this ordinary taste. I’m glad I saw these wonderful life lessons.
