Without one word text this animation illustrates a whole century in the history of Amsterdam. We see the growth of the Amsterdam girdle of canals between 1600 and 1700. That’s the enchanting golden age, in which the success of the Netherlands in trade, science and art grew far beyond the national borders. Made in collaboration with the Amsterdam Municipal Archives Rudi Nieuwenhuis produced a calm animation of the growing parts of the city. Of course in chronological order. For anyone who visit Amsterdam regularly, this is an interesting exercise in historical awareness. And because it’s executed in beautiful HD this film makes a great difference with previous animations. Every proud city should have such a film.
